My Story

As some of you may know, I have spent the last 27 years working with Young People in Scouting, aiming to promote their development in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

But this November I am doing something rather different and, arguably, more challenging...I am, for the very first time, going to take part in an orchestral concert to support a wonderful Music Charity called Orchestra for All (please do take time to look at what they are all about...amazing!). Orchestra for All offers you the chance to come and play in a real-life symphony orchestra for a day, working with a team of professional music tutors and members of our innovative National Orchestra for All. We will be performing a variety of pieces from OFA's season of music making including Verdi’s Anvil Chorus and an arrangement of a traditional Ghanaian song, A Keelie Makolay.

Some know of my ability, or lack of, to use a tambourine in a rhythmic and effective manner. I am not the most coordinated person and the definition of rhythm, in my case, differs vastly from most musicians. Yes, I can sing but making a noise with a hammer hitting an anvil, extremely prominently as it is Verdi's Anvil Chorus, fills me with utter trepidation. I'm also playing the Bass and Tenor drums...oh, the noise! But I'll do it and, hopefully, enjoy every minute, knowing that I am making a difference.

So, can I count on your support? The Event is called Musical Chairs and happens on 16th November, at Westminster School in London. My aim is to raise, at least, £300 which will go towards to the development of the 11 - 18 year olds who take part in the programme.

It doesn't matter how large or small the donation but please try to dig deep and give as much as you can. It would be better to do it via the Charity Checkout, but I do also have a manual sponsor form.

Thank you all so much.
